 This is an example for an APC 1400 UPS. Other APC's might be the same. This is an example for an APC 1400 UPS. Other APC's might be the same.
  
-  - Get out the yellow fuse +{{:apc-back-ups-1400va.jpg?400|}} 
-  - Unscrew 4 screws on the top backside of the ups + 
-  - Turn the UPS and loosen the from at the bottom side with two screwdrivers +  - Get out the yellow fuse. 
-  - Put 1 screwdriver in the opening and pull a little bit +  - Unscrew 4 screws on the top backside of the ups. 
-  - Loosen the side notches with the other screwdriver until the front is off +  - Turn the UPS and loosen the from at the bottom side with two screwdrivers. 
-  - Unscrew the 2 screws at the front +  - Put 1 screwdriver in the opening and pull a little bit. 
-  - Lay-down the UPS on its side and remove the upper case with 2 screwdrivers+  - Loosen the side notches with the other screwdriver until the front is off. 
 +  - Unscrew the 2 screws at the front. 
 +  - Lay-down the UPS on its side and remove the upper case with 2 screwdrivers.
   - As the case comes loose, you will see 2 batteries. Disconnect and remove them.   - As the case comes loose, you will see 2 batteries. Disconnect and remove them.

-  - The layout is black cable **0-000+0** connected with black short cable **0-000+0** red cable +  - Black on minus **-000+** plus and minus with black short cable **-000+** red cable plus. 
-  -  +  - With the batteries replaced, assemble the case.  
- +  - Put the upper case back, turn the UPS so it stands normally 
- +  - Return the two screws at the front in it's place. 
 +  - Put back the front and screw on the back with its 4 screws. 
 +  - Insert the yellow fuse.
  
 +You should now be ready to go again with a fresh pair of batteries.
